The monograph highlights an important ritual and mythological role of the demonological motives in the folk calendar system, and a high degree of their philosophical and ritual manifestations in various parts of the yearly cycle of traditional Christian holidays. The monograph examines calendar beliefs about the most popular images in the Volhynia demonology (witch, water nymph, forest nymph, the departed, house spirit, the devil) and analyses the volume complex of calendar ceremonial actions aimed at protection against demonic forces.
