Purpose: to study the effect of strengthening the cutting tool by a pulsed magnetic field and the properties of the elements of technological systems on the value of the machining of parts on heavy machines. . Subject of research: parameters of the process of hardening and operation of carbide cutting tools for heavy machines. Research methods: a systematic approach to studying the process of machining parts on heavy machines, their conditions and features, patterns of processes, the theory of cutting materials, design theory of cutting tools, qualimetry, reliability theories, operations research, decision making, probability theory and mathematical statistics, theory regression and correlation analysis, mathematical statistics. Theoretical and practical results: The cutting modes and properties of tool material which allow to apply volume strengthening for achievement of the highest productivity at the lowest prime cost are defined; improved target functions that allow to optimize the process of volumetric hardening of carbide cutting tools. Novelty: theoretical principles of increase of efficiency of processing of details by the hard-alloy tool on heavy machines by means of action on them of a pulsed magnetic field are developed. It is established that the main parameters that control the hardening are the magnetic field strength and the frequency of the pulses acting on the cutting plates. Implementation efficiency: a method for determining the optimal value of the magnetic field strength and pulse frequency depending on the geometric parameters of the tool; optimized cutting modes for cutting tools, which are reinforced by a volumetric pulsed magnetic field, according to the criteria of processing productivity, the cost of the operation.
