The bases of technology are developed of production of capillary pipes from magnesium alloy with use of ultrapure components. These tubes are suitable for cutting-out of vascular stents used for treatment and prevention of cardiovascular disease. The production scheme includes eight major stages, from ingot smelting to capillary tubes manufacturing. Final tubes (outer diameter of 1.85 mm, wall thickness of 160 mkm) are made by hot back extrusion of ultra fine-grained (UFG) blanks with subsequent cold deformation of extruded tubes by drawing on fixed mandrel. Pilot samples of capillary tubes made of Mg-3%Sc alloy have manufactured according to the developed production scheme have a yield strength of 162 MPa, a yield strength of 201 MPa and elongation up to rupture of 19%. The corrosion rate of the obtained tubes in physiological solution (in vitro) is 0.43 mkm per day. The set of the given properties of produced tubes, according to literature data, is comparable with the best world samples, and testifies to suitability of such tubes for production of coronary stents from them.
