The purpose of the work is to analyse the influence of political struggle between Russian and Ukrainian political forces in the days of the Central Rada on the intensification of the processes of nationalization in the territory of Southern Ukraine; to carry out scientific analysis of the transformation of Bolshevik separatism in the conditions of the Ukrainian Revolution in 1917-1918 and its evolution in the following historical periods. Methods of research are comparative-historical, retrospective, diachronic and synchronous methods, tools of oral history. The methodological basis of the work is a system of basic principles, including historicism, multifactoriality, comprehensiveness and objectivity. The peculiarities of the Ukrainian Revolution of the early XX century in the South Ukrainian region have been analysed. The main focus is on the national revival and related processes of Ukrainian nationalization, which took place in the south of Ukraine in 1917 – early 1918. The heredity of the anti-Ukrainian policy of the tsarist government, the Provisional Government and the Bolshevik Soviet People’s Commissariat, aimed at the disintegration of Ukraine, attempts to tear it from the southern region, including it in Russia have been proved. The circumstances, that led to the failure of these attempts, have been revealed. It is noted that the South Ukrainian region was a weaker (compared to other regions) link of the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917-1921. It was here that opponents of the revolution constantly tested it for «strength». However, the final outcome of the struggle was determined by the fact that in the South (as in other regions of Ukraine) the bulk of the population felt ethnic Ukrainians, who, in the conditions of the Ukrainian Revolution, quickly transformed into a modern nation.
