First, dynamics of self-positioning of different communities in Ukrainian society has been traced within the sociolinguistic approach, i.e. there have been traced changes in discourse practices and structure of Ukrainian and Russian (in Ukraine) languages that reflect shifts in language stereotypes. Moreover, dynamics of linguistic and ethnic situation of the last decades has been traced, e.g., there have been revealed its typological features. Second, discourse and linguo-pragmatic analysis enabled discovering of nature of linguistic units functioning in different discourse forms both synchronically and diachronically. In particular, the research has shed light on how different discourses (scientific, epistolary, mass media) are formed, as well as on significance of pragmatic factors for them. It has disclosed innovative approaches to text formation and shown importance of ideological factors in different genres. Interdisciplinary linguo-semiotic analysis of nominative and text forming resources revealed nature of symbolic reflection of reality in linguistic units and factors that are of significance for nomination process nowadays. Processes and phenomena of Ukrainian were looked at from broad linguistic and cultural perspective. The research also focused on highlighting of several dominant features of modern Ukrainian linguistic space, i.e. its dependence on factors of historical development and other social and political conditions, in particular on belonging to a particular denomination, as well as on analysis of cultural, moral spiritual, and intellectual values reflected in language. Moreover, it has demonstrated salient features of critical discourse of the 19th century, pragmatic factors that underline diary writing discourse. Other areas of research include creative nature of fiction writing in the 20th century and linguo-semiotic framework of proper noun formation.
