Thirty helminth species were recorded, including one monogenean, 9 species of trematodes, 5 nematodes, and 11 acanthocephalans. The highest helminth species richness was found in Parachaenichthys charcoti (27 species) and Notothenia coriiceps (26). This parameter was lower in Chaenocephalus aceratus (23 species), Trematomus bernacchii (16), Notothenia rossii (14), and Harpagifer antarcticus (6). Statistically significant changes in the species richness of helminths in N. coriiceps during the last two decades were recorded in infra- and component helminth communities, as well as the changes in parameters of infection (prevalence and abundance) in four helminth species. Molecular studies confirmed the validity of Aspersentis megarhynchus (Acanthocephala) and clarified the phylogenetic position of 4 trematode species from the families Hemiuridae, Lecithasteridae, Opecoelidae, and Lepidapedidae. Three groups of species were separated in the structure of helminth communities of N. coriiceps and P. сharcoti: dominant, common, and rare species. The core of the helminth fauna in N. coriiceps is composed of 8 species; that in P. charcoti – 7 species. We continue the analysis of helminth communities in these fish species searching for indicator species to be used in the monitoring of ecological changes in marine ecosystems of Western Antarctica Product Description popup.authors Dmytrieva Ivanna G Kuzmin Yuriy I Lisitsyna Olga I Salganskiy Oleksandr O Syrota Yaroslav Yu popup.nrat_date 2021-09-09 Close
