The main purpose of the study is general theoretical coverage, substantiation and separation of ways to attract and develop a democratic, social, legal state in Ukraine in the context of European integration processes. The purpose and objectives of the study are realized through the integrated application of general scientific and special legal research methods. In particular, the following methods were used among general scientists: dialectical - in the study of the peculiarities of the formation and development of democratic institutions in Ukraine; system-structural analysis - during the study of legal norms of the embodiment of the welfare state in the constitutions and practices of modern states; comparative analysis and synthesis - in establishing the legal nature of the fundamental principles of democracy in the context of European values allowed to determine the relevant substantive characteristics; induction and deduction - to determine the place of decentralization as a complex category among other institutions of state formation. Among the special legal in the work used the following methods of cognition: historical and legal analysis - in the study of the formation and formation of the main components of a democratic, social, legal state; formal-logical, logical-legal and comparative-legal methods - when establishing the features of certain models of decentralization and local self-government, clarifying the relationship between different models of decentralization and local self-government taking into account foreign practice, as well as researching legal norms and developing proposals to improve the current legislation on these issues.
