The research confirmed the feasibility of using schemes (models) for conformity assessment (certification) of railway rolling stock that is in operation beyond its original service lifetime, namely, certification schemes for a single product, certification schemes for a single product from a batch of products of one model, with the issuance of a conformity certificate for each certification of a freight wagon with a validity period of up to one year. Characterization of the technical condition and residual life of load-bearing metal structures of the freight wagon based on the results of technical diagnostics allows to be sure that, at least during the validity of the certificate, load-bearing metal structures of the wagon will withstand normal operating loads (scheduled maintenance, inspections, maintenance, repairs, etc.). The use of test results of a typical representative freight wagon (with the longest service life and with the worst indicators of technical condition of load-bearing metal structures) and extrapolation of test results for the whole batch of similar freight wagons reduces the certification period and financial costs of the applicant for certification.
