It contains conceptually a new approach to the assessment of the natural resources in the structure of the natural resource potential of the territory. The subject of investigation: transformation processes in the land-use of the rural communities in the region. The methodical foundations for the advancement of the ecologic situation of the foothill and mountain territories are being laid. The main aim is to develop recommendations for the implementation of the concept of sustainable development of the countryside, in the aspect of the development of recreation and tourism. The important component of the scientific work is the identification of the border of the territorial social and economic system of the city of Ivano-Frankivsk, as well as the suburbanized zone of the city's core. This is a basic precondition for providing a decentralization process and the formation of the system of new territorial communities in the region. Conceptual problems of the influence of territorial-political conflicts on the structure of the geographical space are objects of investigation. In order to early prevention of destructive phenomena of ecological and socio-political nature, recommendations are being developed for the formation of a balanced socio-cultural educational environment in the foothills and mountain communities.
