Radioecological characteristics of research sites, new scientific data on the state of newly formed elementary populations of indicator species of small rodents by spectrometric, ecological characteristics, the complex of quantitative and structural-functional parameters of the blood system and cytogenetic markers were obtained. An imbalance in the hematopoietic system, changes in the leukocyte formula, disruption of the processes of proliferation and differentiation in the granulocyte and erythroid lines of hematopoiesis, as well as increased somatic mutagenesis was revealed. The necessity of involving bioindicator species with different radiation sensitivity in radiobiological monitoring has been proved. The application of leukocyte indices and cytogenetic markers for the assessment of the state of the hematopoietic system and the prognosis of adaptation processes in chronically irradiated animals is proposed. The obtained results are important for the preservation of biodiversity, environmental management and restoration of radiation-contaminated ecosystems.
