In the course of the research it is planned to analyze the narrative structures of chronicle texts of the 11th – 13th centuries, anachronisms of their "legendary parts", ideological tendencies and rhetorical strategies. The results of such a study will be supplemented by an analysis of sources independent from the "dynastic narrative": Ruthenian non-narrative and foreign texts, onomastic data, materials of numismatics, sigillography, epigraphics. Tracing the features of Old Ruthenian historical narratives (chronicles) as works that simultaneously reflect and construct images of the political history of Rus and the identity of its ruling elite. At this stage, Old Ruthenian historiography will be considered in the circle of typologically similar traditions of historical writing of European early medieval communities. Deconstruction of the presentation of the political history of Rus in the chronicles. It is planned to show on numerous examples how the "slow reading" of the narrative allows to reveal internal contradictions and tendencies and to reveal the volume of manipulations of the compilers of the narratives. At the same time, the involvement of sources independent from the chronicles will make it possible to reconstruct the features of Ruthenian political history of the eleventh and twelfth centuries as objectively as possible.
