Correlation dependences between structure, chemical composition, dispersion of pigments and their electronic structure, specific surface area and desorption characteristics in environment are obtained. Mechanisms and regularities of inhibition of corrosion processes on the surface of steel and aluminum alloy by pigments are established. It is shown that the inhibitory efficiency of pigments depends on the quantitative ratio of their components, production conditions, chemical composition and nature of the protected metal. The obtained pigments can be promising inhibitory components of paint primers for the protection of aluminum alloys and steels in industrial atmosphere.
