The purpose of the work is to determine the influence of alloying, modification of steels and conditions of their wear on the regularities of structural transformations on the worn surface and the level of wear resistance of steels, and development of recommendations for the use of new casting steels. New regularities of influence of phase transformations α↔γ and density of dislocations in phases in metal of friction layer on wear resistance of steels at dry and limiting friction by sliding are established. The regularities of the influence of 120X15Л steel alloying and the conditions of its wear on the formation of secondary friction structures and wear resistance of steel are determined. The positive influence of the formation of the "solid lubricant" phase in the steel structure on the wear resistance of steel during friction sliding is determined. Additional alloying of steel 20Х15Л was optimized, which increased its wear resistance by 2-3 times. The influence of dispersion and disperse nitride hardening technology on the wear resistance of railway carbon steels has been studied. In steels for railway wheels increased wear resistance by 1.5 - 2 times, with friction sliding and friction rolling. It has been determined that nitrogen modification and nitride hardening technology increase the wear resistance of 110Г13Л steel by almost 2 times, during sliding friction and abrasive wear.
