Firstly time the structural, optical and nonlinear optical properties of such nanocomposites were studied. The photovoltaic effect in pure cadmium alkanoate matrices and in their nanocomposites with CdS semiconductor NPs has been identified and studied. Main mechanism of photovoltaic current is the Dember effect, in which the internal field of nonequilibrium charge carriers is formed due to a significant difference in the mobility of positive and negative charges (ions and electrons, in our case) was established. New results of measurements of diffraction efficiency of gratings in liquid crystal cells with different orienting surfaces in the presence of a constant electric field are presented. The obtained results are described in terms of the surface photorefractive mechanism, when diffraction gratings occur due to the formation of an unstable charge in a pure liquid crystal. It is shown that the trampoline mechanism of ion sputtering of solid-state targets significantly modifies the surface on which ions fall.
