There will be several expeditions to different regions of Ukraine with a high number of COVID-19 cases to collect samples from domestic animals for coronavirus detection. Viral RNA will be determined using LAMP technology to compare its efficacy and sensitivity with classical RT-PCR. Obtained SARS-CoV-2 RNA sequences will be used to specify possible mutations in the genome of the virus circulating in Ukraine, and to determine its phylogenetic relationship with other known strains of the SARS-CoV-2. Biosafety regulations will be developed and implemented regarding handling SARS-CoV-2 infected animals, their isolation (or destruction), sampling and storage requirements, laboratory diagnostic protocols, and GIS-modeling of the spread of infection in Ukraine among animals will be performed.
