First of all, we managed to find out that the numerous glazed ceramics, which were considered local products of Belgorod until now, were imported and became from the Crimean pottery workshops. It constitutes the overwhelming majority of the glazed ceramics complex of the Moldavian period (late 14th –15 th centuries) of the site. This is one of the clearest evidences of the brisk trade of the Genoese trading posts of Crimea on the Belgorod / Moncastro market in the 15th century, which means that the city was one of the main trading partners of Caffa. In addition, based on our materials it became possible to clear up the origin and chronology of certain groups of Byzantine and early Ottoman imports to the Belgorod also, as well as to clarify the period of activity of the pottery workshop in Constantinople whose wares came to Belgorod in the 15th century. And finally, based on the study of the ceramics collections from the excavations of the pottery workshops with kilns in Belgorod, we obtained new information about their chronology. The finds of stove tiles indicate that the activity of this workshop took place in the 15th century, and not at the beginning of the 14th century, as it was believed until now. This allows us to significantly revise the chronology of the medieval cultural layers of Belgorod proposed in scientific publications, and to correct the existing ideas about its historical development. Thus, as a result of our study, we acquired new historical information about trade, economic and cross-cultural interactions in the Northern Black Sea region, which can be used to prepare lecture courses and textbooks on medieval archaeology and the history of Ukraine for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as in studies of material culture, ceramics, everyday life, trade, economics, social and cultural processes in the Black Sea region and the Mediterranean during the late Middle Ages and the early Product Description popup.authors Myronenko Liudmyla V Reznichenko Liudmyla S Chmil' Lesa V popup.nrat_date 2021-12-22 Close
