The project aims to develop a parametric basis for the gradual transition of mines from coal as the energy source to a system of innovative geothermal modules for the rational use of the renewable thermal resource of mined out rocks and mine water. Research methods includes collection, systematization, and analysis of actual data on disturbed rock properties, engineering and geological analysis, mathematical modeling, field measurements. The scientific significance of the research consists in creation of a parametric basis for efficient operation of geothermal systems at closed mines by modeling of thermo-hydrodynamic processes in mined-out rocks considering local geotechnical and hydrogeological conditions, which enables rational using a thermal resource of rocks and mine water with maintenance of water safety of adjacent territories. The estimated thermal capacity based on the Selidove group of mines of about 5 MW can meet the heat demands of around 5000 local consumers. The research scope focuses on the mining and municipal sectors including heat supply companies in coalmining regions where technical possibilities to install equipment for mine water heat recovery are available.
