A particular attention is paid to the compounds containing elements that are characterized by a variable valence and coexistence of magnetic moments on the atoms of f- and d-elements. The atoms of such elements are extremely sensitive both to the modifications of the crystal lattice and to the changes in the electronic structure due to the formation of new chemical bonds. A limited solid solution of Y in the compound Ce3Si2 (U3Si2 ST) and Tb in the compound YCo (TlI ST) was found. Intermetallic compounds within solid solutions Ce3Si2, Ce2YSi2, YCo, Y0.9Tb0.1Co, as well as compounds with different crystal structure Y0.7Tb0.3Co and structurally related to type U3Si2 compound Ho2Ni2In (Mn2AlB2 ST) have been hydrogenated. For the compounds YCo and Y0.9Tb0.1Co, absorption of 3.2 and 3.4 at. H / f.u., respectively, results in a pronounced anisotropic unit cell expansion, while the formation of hydrides Ce3Si2H2.8, Ce2YSi2H2.1, Y0.7Tb0,3CoH3,4, Ho2Ni2InH4,3 leads to the changes in the type of crystal structure, as well as a significant change in microstructure parameters, i.e. grain size. The compounds with a combination of magnetic f-element and non-magnetic Y were selected for further studies of the effect of hydrogenation on the physical properties of intermetallics,. The obtained results allow to tune the hydrogenation properties of intermetallics via substitutions in the position of atoms of f-elements, which, in their turn, affect the parameters of the physical properties of intermetallics and the corresponding hydrides.
