The kinetics of austenite decay of steels for railway wheels of different chemical composition has been studied, taking into account chemical inhomogeneity and influence on mechanical properties (hardness). Experimentally in laboratory conditions according to own technique the interval of admissible cooling rates of superficial and central sites of a rim of wheels of various chemical structure at the accelerated cooling is defined: the maximum admissible cooling rates of a skating surface high mechanical properties. On the basis of complex composition criteria the regularities of influence of chemical composition and cooling rate of steels for railway wheels on their mechanical properties are established. It is shown that in order to achieve a uniform structural state across the rim cross section for steels for railway wheels, it is necessary to use differential cooling during heat treatment, as the existing technology does not provide cooling with optimal speeds. Recommendations for improving the modes of accelerated cooling in heat treatment of railway wheels of different chemical composition have been developed, taking into account the modernization of equipment at the thermal section of the wheel-rolling shop of PJSC "INTERPIPE" and their industrial testing.
