Research object: system of antioxidant defense in fruit flies and young mice for the consumption of certain food supplements. Purpose of work: to determine the ability of plant extracts with high content of phenylpropanoids and certain chemical compounds to reduce the intensity of oxidative stress and/or stimulate the antioxidant defense system of D. melanogaster and mice. Research methods – biochemical; physiological methods, methods of mathematical statistics. Results and novelty: It was found that alpha-ketoglutarate (AKG), ferulic acid (FA), 2,4-dinitrophenol (DNP) and chili pepper and anise hyssop, except for the preparation from the rhizome of Rhodiola rosea, in potentially geroprotective concentrations affect the activity of the antioxidant defense system and the levels of oxidative damage in middle-aged fruit flies. At the same time, the direction of changes depends on both the type of drug and the sex of the flies. Only the geroprotective effect of anise hyssop can be related to its antioxidant properties. Common to chili peppers, AKG and DNP is that they decrease capacity of antioxidant system of female fruit flies. It has been shown for the first time that on the background of standard food, AKG activates certain components of antioxidant defense in the liver of mice, whereas decreases activities of antioxidant enzymes in the brain. Preparations of FA and roseroot decrease activities of antioxidant enzymes tissue-specifically in the body of young mice on the background of standard food. Intermittent fasting had a similar effect on the antioxidant system of the cerebral cortex of young mice. Short-term consumption of high-calorie diet or cafeteria diet induces the development of obesity phenotype and oxidative stress in mouse tissues. It has been shown for the first time that both AKG and FA correct changes caused by a high-calorie diet with a more pronounced corrective effect in AKG.
