Usikov Institute for Radiophysics and Electronics NAS of Ukraine popup.description2 During the implementation of the project stage, the properties of electromagnetic waves propagating in oversized waveguides with periodically-inhomogeneous (nonuniform) gratings and their interaction with a wide sheet electron beam have been studied. The three-dimensional numerical model of the interaction of a sheet electron beam with hybrid bulk-surface waves has been developed. The model considers the three-dimensional motion of a wide sheet electron beam and the velocity profile formed as the result of a complex influence of the space charge, anode lens and inhomogeneous magnetic field. The dispersion properties are investigated for the waves propagating in an oversized waveguide containing both homogeneous and multistage gratings. The parameters of two-stage and three-stage periodically-inhomogeneous circuits were defined in order to provide the widest bandwidth of synchronous beam-wave interaction with the forward harmonics in the higher pass-band. The regimes of beam-wave interaction were defined for high coupling impedance and low high-frequency ohmic losses. The effect of an interaction of modes with different transverse indices has been studied. The possibility of simultaneous interaction of a sheet beam with two modes differing in transverse index at the same frequency in oversized waveguide with periodically-inhomogeneous grating has been shown. The effect of traveling-wave amplification in an oversized waveguide with a three-stage grating has been experimentally demonstrated. The obtained results provide new knowledge about the simultaneous interaction of a sheet electron beam with two hybrid bulk-surface modes in the region of mode interaction. The practical value of the acquired knowledge is important for the development and design of compact vacuum electron devices in the THz frequency range.
