Information on fluids movement nature in coal is important, above all, to determine optimal conditions for industrial coal seams development, assess resources and prospects for coal methane utilization, mass storage, and reflected coal transportation. The purpose of the work is the systematic study of hierarchical porous structure influence and coal sorption properties on the ability of coal to retain and emit methane, development of scientific bases for express gas content determination, and changes in coal filtration properties in the disposal. Coal deposits of Ukraine were studied in order to evaluate their properties as methane collectors. Analytical expressions for numerical calculation of characteristic filtration values and diffusion time for relative contribution estimation of these processes to gas desorption duration from coal are received. As a result, it was possible to develop a method and algorithm for performing measurements in laboratory and mine conditions. Studies have shown characteristic time high sensitivity of filtration process to structural disturbances in coal. It was found that geological disturbances in the formation structure led to a reduction of filtration time by almost an order of magnitude. The effect is due to the increase in coal permeability due to increased cracking. As a result, it was allowed to physically substantiate the method gas content rapid determination and changes in coal filtration properties in formations at the sampling place.
