The study object is social relations in rural land use in terms of spatial justice and human rights. The study purpose is the establishment of an institutional environment for sustainable development of rural areas based on the principles of spatial justice and protection of peasants' rights to land. Results and novelty: the research report substantiates the essence and scientific-applied bases of peasants’ rights to land as bases of spatial justice in land use and sustainable rural development; reveals features and consequences of egalitarian and market approaches to reforming land tenure; develops the conceptual framework of land policy on the basis of the human rights approach; outlines spatial inequalities in the distribution of agricultural land, financial and economic, socio-economic and environmental aspects of the realization of peasants' rights to land; identifies opportunities to use communal lands to enhance spatial justice by ensuring basic human rights and rights of rural communities; identifies external driving forces of fair land use and spatial rural development in Ukraine; suggests directions of improving spatial development based on justice in the implementation of land policy in Ukraine; develops organizational and legal mechanisms to ensure the rights of peasants and local communities in land use. Practical importance. Implementation of the elaborations will help eliminate discrimination in the realization of peasants' rights to land, strengthen counteraction to risks and threats to sustainable rural development in the context of globalization. The extent of adoption. The proposals developed following research results are used in the work of the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Anti-Corruption Policy.
