Keywords: Darwin wasps, cuckoo wasps, digger wasps, fauna, systematics, biodiversity conservation, morphology, cocoon, ovipositor, sting. Objects of study: model groups of hymenopterans (Hymenoptera: Chysididae, Crabronidae, Ichneumonoide, Scolebythidae, Sclerogibbidae). The goal of the project: to study of morpho-functional characteristics of the ovipositor and its modifcations (sting) and the life-strategies ichneumonoid, chrysidoid and apoid wasps (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonoidea, Chrysidoidea, Apoidea) as the key factors of high species diversity of the target insect groups. Methods: field research, laboratory experiments and cameral data processing. Main results and their novelty: distribution of Diplazontinae and Mesochorinae parasitoids in the Ukrainian Carpathians is studied for the first time. Six new recent Ichneumonidae species and numerous extinct chrysidoid wasp taxa: five genera and eight species from the families Scolebythidae and Sclerogibbidae are described. Data on the protected Megarhyssa species in Ukraine and Romania are expanded. Correlation between early early established phylogenetic relationships and cocoon structure in some Chrysididae taxa are demonstrated. Features of structure and functioning of hidden metasomal segments of cuckoo wasps are studied. Morpho-functional characteristics of sting and its relationships with biology in some members of Cerceris and Tachysphex are established. Several morpho-functional features of Apoidea and outgroup in comparative morphological study of the sting of apoid wasps, resulting in three phylogenetically significant features identified.
