The purpose of the study: development of methodological and methodical tools for assessing the current state of the public sphere of the city, description of the forecast background of its structure, modeling of development vectors. Research methods: method of system-structural analysis; methods of collecting information (interviews, questionnaires, qualitative and quantitative analysis of text documents); methods of information processing (generalization, systematization, typology, modeling). Practical application: the obtained results are aimed at solving modern problems of development of the public sphere of the city, which today is formatted by various life practices and grassroots forms of social organization ('urban community'). The novelty of the study is: the development of a theoretical model of public sphere research of the city, which involves: a) the establishment of subjects, their resource characteristics, life strategies and tactics of daily activities and loci of responsibility; b) clarification of mechanisms of (re)formatting of urban public space (formats of social self-organization of institutional / non-institutional nature, forms of relationships within urban communities); c) identification of risk factors for publicity. A new analytical language (system of concepts and categories) is proposed, which reveals the content and nature of changes in the modern public sphere.
