The features of education for sustainable development are characterized and the definition of the concept is clarified. It is defined as current type of continuous qualitative education at all levels for all citizens.Features of education for sustainable development in different regions of the world are characterized. The state of implementation of education for sustainable development in Ukraine is revealed. It was found that in Ukraine, the education for the sustainable development is at the formation stage. Based on the analysis of the role and functions of modern education and its specific areas, the following clusters of educational functions for sustainable development are identified.
