The purpose of the work is to increase the functional properties of metal products (machine parts, tools) in conditions of intensive wear by the formation of pulse-plasma protective coatings. Research methods: optical and scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersion spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction method; determination of hardness and microhardness; wear resistance tests; computer thermodynamic modeling. The peculiarities of formation of coatings based on the carbides and carboborides of elements of IV-VI groups formed by using the pulse-plasma deposition are established in the work. Data on the effect of pulse-plasma treatment parameters and chemical composition of the expendable cathode on the physical-mechanical and operational properties of the coatings depending on their phase structural state and phase distribution of chemical elements within the coating are obtained. The parameters of the technological process of pulse-plasma coating obtained with the use of cathodes of composite structure are developed.
