The obtained strains demonstrated increased activities of alcohol dehydrogenase and pyruvate decarboxylase in comparison with the wild-type strain. During fermentation in a medium containing chemically pure or crude glycerol (which is a waste of biodiesel production), the obtained strains produced 3.0-3.5 times more ethanol compared to the wild-type strain.
