The thermal effects of methane pyrolysis reactions and carbothermal reduction of silicon oxide depending on temperature are determined. For the application of pyrocarbon on quartz sand without additional electrically conductive material, an installation with a combined electrothermal fluidized bed was created. Batch of quartz sand covered with pyrocarbon has been developed. As a result of experiments, the reduction of quartz sand with pyrocarbon, which was deposited on quartz sand particles during the pyrolysis of hydrocarbon gases, due to the technical difficulties of obtaining fine silicon carbide is not possible. To eliminate technical difficulties, it was decided to divide the process into two stages: I. Preliminarily cover with quartz carbon particles of quartz sand in reactors with ETPS at temperatures of 800… 1200 ° C. ІІ. Quartz-coated quartz sand is treated at temperatures of 1500… 1700 ° C in reactors with ETCS. The formation of silicon carbide with encapsulated pyrocarbon quartz sand during high-temperature treatment in a reactor with electrothermal fluidized bed has been experimentally proved. The silicon carbide powder synthesized from the obtained semi-finished product contains two polytypic modifications of silicon carbide: cubic SiC-3C and hexagonal SiC-6H. The physical and technical properties of quartz sand encapsulated in pyrocarbon and silicon carbide obtained in an electrothermal fluidized bed have been studied. The use of high-speed hot pressing has shown the possibility of manufacturing ceramic products based on SiC powder obtained by electrothermal fluidized bed for the needs of nuclear energy, engineering and space industry. A series of samples was made for further research. Product Description popup.authors Ivachkin Yaroslav O.
