The museum provides the space where communication between the scientific community and various groups of people takes place. Museum exhibitions are specific information systems that can be included into the education process in order to psychologically and morally prepare young people to become a subject of changes of the environment. Museum collections are powerful and sometimes the only sources of study and interpretation of nature. Collections amassed by celebrated researchers (G. Y. Shcherbak, V. O. Karavaev, G. Lomander, and V. M. Loskot) were studied, historical data on them were updated, and collections were enriched by new specimens. The study of paleontological collections of freshwater fishes allowed to describe various regional ichthyofaunal assemblages, to reconstruct their taxonomic composition and the dynamics of evolutionary transformation within those assemblages. The obtained data are valuable for the interpretation of evolution of freshwater fishes and can be used in further educational activities. The study of bird remains from museum collections allowed to reconstruct Holocene biotopes. The use of novel forms of interactive educational activities allowed to increase the number of museum visitors. Educational activities organized in the museum by using multimedia and modern technological tools has become a priority direction in the development of natural history museums. An analysis of foreign and Ukrainian experience showed that a wide range of activities are effective forms of knowledge dissemination, including the spread of diverse printed materials, organization of specific events, contests, quests, and other forms of activities. Events that focus on symbol species are important in knowledge dissemination and in drawing attention to issues of biodiversity conservation, balanced use of natural resources, and sustainable development.
