Due to the growing demand for both sunflower oil used in the food and technical industries, and waste from the processing of seeds - meal and cake, as valuable feed for livestock, the area under sunflower in Ukraine remains consistently high. Many years of experience in growing sunflower in Ukraine shows that in crop rotation it should return to the previous field no earlier than 8 years. This can significantly reduce the spread of diseases and pests, reduce weeds, significantly improve the water and nutrient regime of plants. The best precursors are winter grains sown on busy and clean pairs or legumes. They do not dry the soil deeper than 1 m, hence the sunflower absorbs moisture in the second half of the growing season. In the forest-steppe, where the conditions of humidification are more favorable, spring crops are good predecessors. Also sown after corn, potatoes. Sunflower has a strong root system that penetrates the soil up to 3 m, so it should not be placed after crops with deep penetrating root system, such as perennial grasses, Sudan grass, sugar beets. Soil protection technology involves tillage with needle harrows, cultivators-flat cutters KPSh-9, KPSh-5, KSHN-6 "Galeshchyna", tillage units AKSH-5,6, AKSH-3,6 and flat cutters-deep cultivators PG-3-5 , KPG-250A, etc. In sunflower, the period of absorption of nutrients is stretched, so it needs them much more (especially potassium) than cereals. To obtain 1 ton of seeds, sunflower absorbs approximately 50-70 kg of nitrogen, 25-28 kg of phosphorus and 120-160 kg of potassium. Thus, with a yield of 2.1 t / ha of seeds, sunflower removes 120 kg of nitrogen, 45 kg of phosphorus and 235 kg of potassium from the soil.
