The aim of the work is to create a new device based on a portable gamma-ray CdZnTe spectrometer for non-destructive rapid control of the characteristics and isotopic composition of uranium-containing nuclear materials. The research is especially relevant for the control of technological processes and accounting and control of nuclear materials at Ukrainian nuclear power plants. Methods for measuring uranium enrichment using gamma spectrometry are analyzed. It is shown that the measurement methods based on the relative intensities of gamma radiation of 235U and 238U has an advantage. The selection of optimal parameters of CdZnTe spectrometric quality detectors for efficient registration of sample gamma-radiation sources in the energy range of 60… 1300 keV was performed. Based on the results of modeling and experimental studies of gamma radiation spectra of uranium isotopes 235U, 238U, in the energy range 180… 1001 keV, a CdZnTe detector with a size of 5 × 5 × 5 mm3 was selected. A study of the response of CdZnTe detectors to gamma radiation of bulk sources of uranium-containing materials with different contents of the uranium isotope 235U in the range of 0.3… 20 percent by weight has been started.
