At this stage, the mechanisms of destruction of periclase-carbon fused refractories used in oxygen converters and other metallurgical equipment were studied. The mechanisms of destruction that are different for different parts of the lining, due to the different nature of the physico-chemical effects of the environment that the refractory comes into contact were confirmed. According to the macro-pictures of the destruction of refractories, it was established that the most aggressive is the influence of metallurgical slags, which causes the formation of a decarburized transition zone in the volume of refractory. Accordingly, the contact of the carbon bond with the periclase grains deteriorates and structural destruction is observed. This is expressed in the formation of cracks and cavities that cause the destruction of refractory material at the boundary of the contract with the slag melt. Given the physicochemical structure of periclase-carbon refractory (presents of carbon binder), the electrical resistance of the investigated area of refractory material was chosen as a parameter to determine the depth of destruction. The change of periclase-carbon resistance of refractories depending on temperature wais investigated and analytical expressions for recalculation of level of electric resistance of the investigated site on change of its profile were developed.
