Usikov Institute for Radiophysics and Electronics NAS of Ukraine popup.description2  In the project, heterostructures and photonic crystals, including gyrotropic media, metamaterials and layered superconductors, were investigated analytically and using computer simulation methods. The following tasks were completed: 1. Theoretically investigate the resonance effects associated with the excitation and propagation of Josephson plasma waves localized on the plate of a layered superconductor, and investigate the interaction of terahertz laser radiation with a layered superconductor. 2. Theoretically investigate the effect of dynamic space charge on bipolar transport in semiconductor metamaterials, superlattices and semiconductors with a complex band structure in a wide frequency range of the external electromagnetic field. 3. Theoretically study the anomalous phenomena accompanying the diffraction of electromagnetic radiation by one-dimensional and two-dimensional periodic structures within media with high electromagnetic contrast. 4. Construct an analytically numerical scheme for solving the problem of diffraction by a finite photonic-crystal structure. 5. Analyze the influence of the specific properties of metamaterials and layered superconductors on the electrodynamic characteristics of photonic crystals. 6. Theoretically study solid-state structures consisting of cylindrical dielectrics or semiconductors and two-dimensional electron gas. Determine the influence of the Aharonova-Bohm effect on the dispersion characteristics of the eigenmodes of the structure under study. 7. Numerically analyze the ring system of phased slot emitters excited by the oscillation of the "whispering gallery" of a cylindrical dielectric resonator. The new fundamental knowledge about electromagnetic processes in heterostructures and photonic crystals obtained as a result of the project, including gyrotropic media, metamaterials and layered superconductors, can be used to build terahertz electronics devices based on new physical principles.
