Neutron-physical, thermohydraulic, electrotechnical and other characteristics of modern NPPs are studied to solve the problem of substantiation of the optimal choice of promising NPPs for Ukraine's energy sector and nuclear energy technology in general The purpose of the work - research is aimed at developing scientific and technical and economic bases for the optimal choice of promising nuclear energy technologies for Ukraine. Research method - analysis of the peculiarities of neutron-physical and thermohydraulic processes in the NPP; physical and mathematical modeling of the main equipment of the NPP. R&D results - The rationale for choosing promising nuclear energy technologies depends significantly on the energy strategy adopted in Ukraine, which is periodically reviewed. In accordance with the current "Energy Strategy of Ukraine until 2035", nuclear energy is given an important role as one of the most cost-effective low-carbon energy sources. Further development of the nuclear energy sector by 2035 envisages an increase in electricity production at Ukraine's nuclear power plants to 94 billion kWh. To achieve this goal, an important task, along with ensuring the operation of NPP units in the extra-project life, is research to justify the optimal choice of promising nuclear facilities to replace decommissioned units. The R&D takes into account national NTDs on nuclear and radiation safety, ensuring the operation of NPPs, the existing infrastructure of NPP operation and spent fuel management, global trends in the development of nuclear energy technologies. A systematic analysis of promising areas of development of the nuclear energy industry, types and features of the use of new generation reactors is performed.
