The purpose of the study is to determine the projected volumes of coal production and the corresponding levels of technological development of the coal industry of Ukraine in terms of guaranteeing energy security, taking into account the capabilities of renewable energy sources and the structure of coal products. The analysis of the current state of the coal industry of Ukraine, in particular, the technological state of mines and concentrators, factors of negative impact on the efficiency of coal mining, including financial problems of the coal industry. An analysis of the impact of the development of renewable energy sources on the energy balance of Ukraine, in particular on coal generation. Forecast scenarios for the development of the coal mining sector and scenarios for improving the efficiency of coal beneficiation have been developed. The mathematical model of optimization of development of the mining sector of the coal industry is improved and the mathematical model of optimization of production of finished coal products for maintenance of qualitative coal products of economy of the country is developed. A software and information complex has been developed for the economic substantiation of quantitative and qualitative indicators of the volume of coal products supplied to the economy of Ukraine. Using the developed mathematical models and software and information complex, the optimal structure of coal products for the thermal power industry of Ukraine was determined and the forecast balance of coal products in the economy of Ukraine was developed. Methods of retrospective data analysis, dependency detection, comparative analysis, scientific forecasting, mathematical programming and optimization are used in the work.
