The aim of the work is to establish new physical principles and experimental methods to increase the efficiency of generation and controllability of sources of droplet-free and highly ionized plasma flows based on a vacuum arc discharge with an evaporating anode. This report presents the results of the study of the density and temperature of plasma in streams that are able to generate a non-independent arc discharge in pure zirconium vapors. The values ​​of the plasma potential of fluxes at different modes of discharge operation are established, the longitudinal and transverse electric field strengths in the plasma are estimated. The possibility of estimating the electron density of discharge plasma in pure refractory metal vapors by the values ​​of the total current of ion flux and ionic saturation current on a flat probe with a protective ring is experimentally shown. During the implementation of the topic the designs of electrostatic analyzer of ions and electrons of plasma and flat probe with protective ring were developed, their ability to work in the conditions of stationary electric discharge in pure vapors of refractory metals was shown and thus the possibility of using probe methods . Preliminary studies of the properties of the obtained metal films were also carried out and the peculiarities of initiating a stable non-independent arc discharge in pairs of structural materials of nuclear energy were investigated.
