KYIV-PECHERSK LAURAS, PHOTOGRAPHY, ILLUSTRATED POSTCARD, POSTCARD, VISUAL SOURCES, "VISUAL TURN" The object of research is visual documents devoted to the ensemble of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra (1852-1919) The subject of research is social, economic and axiological conditions for the emergence of visual technetronic sources devoted to the architectural ensemble of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. The aim is reconstruction of public views on the place of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra in the dimension of the visual narrative of the second half of the nineteenth - first decades of the twentieth century. The following methods were used in the research: general scientific – analysis, synthesis, comparison, generalization; specifically scientific – historical comparative, historical genetic, historical systemic, retrospective, typology. Visual-analytical technique is based on the systematization of changes in visual images and related informational and semantic transformations of social humanitarian and memorial functions inherent in the monument. This work is the first part of a project for cataloging and publishing visual sources on the history of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra in the second half of the nineteenth – early twentieth century. As part of the work, the author studied collections of visual materials that are stored in National Preserve “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra”, National Library of Ukraine named after V.I. Vernadsky, State Scientific Architectural and Construction Library named after V.G Zabolotny, depositories of foreign museums and libraries. The results of scientific work can be used in writing the history of photography in Ukraine between the mid-nineteenth – early twentieth century, in scientific and scientific-exhibition work of the National Preserve "Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra".
