Determination of molecular markers of apoptosis and histochemical detection of apoptotic changes using the TUNEL method allowed establishing the intensification of the process of programmed cell death in the brain of rats with prolonged exposure to prednisolone. A decrease in the number of neurons in the hippocampus has been shown. Increased cell death was accompanied by inhibition of the proliferation process in various structural areas of the brain, mainly due to microglia.
