Age estimates of the formation time of weathered crusts of igneous and metamorphic rocks have been corrected. In terms of chemical and petrographic composition, rocks exposed to weathering are assigned to certain complexes or series according to the modern chronostratigraphic scheme. To test the hypothesis of the relationship between the oil and gas potential of the crystalline basement and weathering processes, the probability of weathering of igneous rocks recently drilled in two oil and gas regions of Ukraine, namely in the northern flank of the Dnipro-Donets depression and on the northwestern Black Sea shelf, was studied on new concrete samples. For the first region, based on the study of Archean granite from a gas-producing well in the basement of the Dnipro-Donets depression, it was concluded that the formation of decompacted zones in the bedrock, which serve as oil and gas reservoirs, is not caused by weathering. In the second region, according to the research results of rhyolite from a borehole on the Kiliya-Zmeinyi uplift it has been suggested that the latter is a continuation of the Northern Dobruja structure into the Black Sea, which was a part of the Late Paleozoic Euxinian orogen.  Product Description popup.authors Belskyi Volodymyr M.
