It is shown that the physical and mechanical properties of film coatings depend on their structural state, regardless of the method of production. Nanocomposite coatings of transition metal carbonitrides in Ti-Zr-C, (CrN / ZrN) / (Cr / Zr) and other systems were synthesized by the methods of vacuum-arc sputtering (Bulat-6) and magnetron sputtering by direct current. The thermal protection properties of multilayer protective coatings based on titanium nitride, carbide and carbonitride: TiN, TiC, TiCN and TiAlN are analyzed. It is shown that as a result of combining materials with the appropriate design strategy, multilayer coatings can be adapted to reduce the coefficient of friction, increase wear resistance in order to apply them in different tribological systems. The obtained experimental results on the structural-phase state and mechanical properties of coatings before and after nitriding by different methods (vacuum-arc, high-frequency magnetron, DC magnetron sputtering and nitriding methods) are analyzed. Studies of the surface morphology and friction coefficient of different types of tool steel after nitriding showed a decrease in the friction coefficient from 0.5-0.6 to 0.3-0.15 depending on the counterbody, which in some cases exceeds the characteristics of multilayer film coatings. There is also no deformation destruction of nitrided film coatings, which is an advantage over multilayer film coatings obtained by other methods.
