The content, organizational forms, methods, techniques and means of teaching computer science have been developed. The didactic and methodical requirements which observance is provided by competence-oriented training of computer science in gymnasium are generalized. The priorities, purpose and tasks of teaching computer science in the gymnasium have been specified. The concept of applied orientation of teaching computer science in the gymnasium and ways of its implementation at different stages of education are analyzed. Criteria for forming the content of computer science education based on the results of analysis of computer science as a science and industry of information and communication technologies (ICT) at the time of research, level and prospects of informatization of society, pedagogical experience reflected in domestic and foreign scientific publications, data on the Internet research. Didactic and methodical bases of realization of applied orientation of teaching computer science in gymnasium are substantiated. It is substantiated that the formation of information and other key competencies involves strengthening the applied orientation of the content of education.
