The purpose of research is to determine the reference conditions and develop type-specific classification tables to determine the ecological status and potential for all types of surface water in the Prut and Siret river basins in the framework of the Procedure for state water monitoring approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine from 19.09.2018 № 758 and provided by the requirements of the EU Water Framework Directive, as well as the implementation of economic analysis of water use in the Prut and Siret sub-basins in the preparation of River Basin Management Plans to assess the payback of water resources. Research methods - hydrobiological, hydrochemical, ichthyological, as well as methods of economic analysis and analysis of literature data. A comprehensive assessment of the hydroecosystems of the Prut and Siret sub-basins within Ukraine was conducted, which allowed to characterize the reference conditions and develop classification tables to determine the ecological status of surface water massifs in the study region.
