The aim of the work is to update existing and develop new theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of mass media in Ukraine, to determine its main practical and applied parameters, functions, vectors of development in the social communication paradigm, empirical analysis of facts and phenomena of modern national media system. Analytical elaboration of the Western scientific discourse on mass media activity provided some new productive approaches and paradigms for studying of the relevant processes in the national media industry, allowed to identify the latest media phenomena at different stages of their life cycle. In particular, the appeal to the theory of mediatisation made it possible to provide a media-centric approach to the transformations taking place in various spheres of society. The results of the research are introduced into the educational process of preparation of bachelors and masters in the specialty 061 - ""Journalism"". The collection of scientific papers called ""Communications and Communicative Technologies"" is published on the subject of the research, in which the results of scientific developments of employees and graduate students of the Department of Mass and International Communication of DNU are presented. Moreover, two collective monographs (""Current trends in modern communication space"", 2020; ""Media sphere: local and global"", 2021), which summarised the results of research scientific work, were published. Theoretical generalisations and methodological developments can be used in communicative studies, media critics and media education. Practical conclusions and recommendations can be used to improve the system of journalism education and optimise media activities in Ukraine and Dnipro region.
