 For the first time the peculiarities of the reception of Western philosophy in the philosophical thought of Ukraine of the XIX - first half of the XX century are analyzed. In particular, it has been discovered that main places for such a reception were university departments of philosophy (Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa), leading Ukrainian socio-political movements (Ukrainophilia of various kinds), and from the beginning of XX century - philosophical journals. Despite the fact that academic philosophical thought in this period was part of the philosophical life of the Russian Empire, and later - the USSR, its representatives were distinguished by their pro-European orientation. The most influential Western philosophy in the academic world of this period is German, in particular neo-Kantianism, and completely new trends, such as psychoanalysis and feminism, are also popular.
