Chitosan-melanin complex (CMC) was obtained from bees and its fragmentation was carried out by limited acid hydrolysis. Purification and preparative development of HMC fragments of complex with high (200 ± 50 kDa), medium (125 ± 25 kDa) and low (15 ± 9 kDa) molecular weight was carried out. The antifungal activity of obtained fragments of CMC on laboratory and clinical strains of Candida albicans was studied. Conjugates of experimental antineoplastic drug (4-thiazolidinone derivative Les-1895) with different lectins (pea lectin (PSA), phytohemagglutinin (PHA-E), peanut lectin (PNA)) were synthesized. These lectins have been used as vector molecules to deliver drugs to mammalian cells and tissues. The lectins and their conjugates with Les were less toxic towards human pseudo-normal cells. However, the cytotoxic effect of such conjugates with Les-1895 on human tumor cells was 2-fold greater than such effect of its free form. Apoptotic mechanisms of death of mammalian tumor cells, in particular, MCF-7 human breast cancer cells, have been established under the action of synthesized conjugates of Ser-Pro-Cys peptide with synthetic polymers. Complexation of the studied peptide with individual polymer also significantly enhanced its antimicrobial activity against Staphylococuus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The application of luciferase reporter for temporary overexpression in mammalian cells of heat shock proteins and blocking their expression by shRNA revealed hyperactivation of the signaling pathway of transforming growth factor TGF-β.
