A method for protecting the melt oxides of rare-earth elements by using additional tungsten shields has been developed. The functional properties of the obtained materials have been studied. It was found that non-activated yttrium oxide has scintillation decay times of 31 ns, 41 ns, and 39 ns upon excitation from alpha, beta, and gamma radiation, respectively. The obtained mixed crystals of the composition (Y0,55Sc0,45)2O3, showed scintillation decay times upon excitation from gamma radiation of 518 ns and had high optical transparency in the range from 250 nm to 1100 nm.
