The purpose of the work is a comprehensive study of the geological structure of sedimentary strata, the diversity and direction of geological processes in the Black Sea basin, the features of sedimentation of bottom sediments in various structural zones, the spatial distribution of facies complexes of different genetic types, the examination of the material composition of ancient and modern marine sedimentary formations of the Black Sea, monitoring of the terrigenous and biogenic matter flows into the water area, as well as replenishment of the computer databases of marine geological data created in the department. Research methods: lithological, biostratographic, micropaleontological, geochemical, electron microscope, radioisotope, facies analysis, environmental monitoring. The main patterns of sedimentation processes in various facies zones of the Black Sea are determined, lithostratigraphic and biostratigraphic characteristics of sedimentary complexes are provided, the dynamics of the formation of modern bottom sediments and sedimentation environments is studied, an assessment of the prospects of resources of silt sediments with the properties of peloids within the areas of interaction between land and water for the formation of the geological and ecological system of the Black Sea shelf was carried out. The results obtained during the implementation of the Research work will contribute to further replenishment of the marine geological database created in the Department of Modern Marine Sedimentogenesis of the IGN NAS of Ukraine.
