The purpose of the project is to establish the modern features of the existence and functional role of faunal complexes of urban areas in the Steppe zone of Ukraine. Research methods are soil-zoological, entomological, ornithological, generally accepted methods of reptile research; methods of primary data processing (basic statistics, analysis of variance, integrated computing, etc.). The research is aimed at identifying the features of the functional role of the zoocenosis in urban ecosystems of the Steppe zone of Ukraine. The peculiarities of the current state of faunal complexes of invertebrates in natural ecosystems of the Steppe zone of Ukraine were established. The role of soil meso- andmacrofauna in anthropogenic transformed ecosystems was determined. Peculiarities of the existence of invertebrates in the conditions of a modern metropolis were studied. The current state of faunal vertebrate complexes in urban ecosystems of the Steppe zone of Ukraine was determined. Conclusions about the functional role of vertebrates in biogeocenoses with different degrees of anthropogenic load were obtained. The results of research are of scientific importance for the functioning of nature reserves, the development of methods for modern monitoring of zoocenosis, and the protection and enhancement of species and taxonomic biodiversity.Scientific results are the basis for the development of modern environmental measures that will be competitive due to their low economic value and ease of use.The results of research are applied in the field of natural heritage protection; land reclamation; nature protection and rational use of natural resources, and introduced into the educational process of OlesHonchar Dnipro National University.
