Research work covers the theoretical foundation of self-concept in the context of self-expression on different stages of ontogenetic development, theoretical and empirical substantiation of the development of self-concept depending on individual psychological potential and activity in life-long learning. The findings of the study revealed the socio-psychological precursors of individual’s optimal functioning and successful adaptation through learning and personal resources for fulfilling basic life tasks. Psychodiagnostic methods for the investigation of personality in the context of effective adaptation and optimal functioning of self-concept have been found. Theoretical and empirical association between development of self-concept and life-long learning has been substantiated.
